Easy Up Tents

I recently took my grandson camping and am amazed how much camping has changed since I was a boy.

We can now use a GPS device to avoid getting lost. There are meals that are already prepared. Not surprising, the types and sizes of tents available today are truly amazing. When I went shopping for camping supplies, the salesperson mentioned that easy up tents, a new product to me, are very practical and make the camping trip much more enjoyable.

The last time I went camping was as a teenager in 1955. I can still smell the bacon that was cooked, and the mosquitoes that seemed the size of hummingbirds. It was in the dead of summer, and the temperature and humidity were almost unbearable.

My grandson is nine years old and quite a pioneer. He enjoyed the time we shared together almost as much as I did. We found a very isolated site about 1/4 mile from the dirt road where we parked.

We immediately went about establishing the site and erecting the tent. What a breeze setting up the tent. It took less than five minutes from the time we started until we had our shelter in place for the next two nights.

Next we gathered wood for building a camp fire. We build a stone perimeter approximately two feet in diameter. We then hollowed out the camp fire location and placed some small twigs and broken branches under some larger logs.

We cheated a bit by using fire logs that I had purchased at the camping supply store. They light much quicker that natural logs and don't put off near as much smoke.

I don't really miss the experience of finding that someone forgot to pack some important item so we couldnt cook dinner.

In fact the good old days of roughing it look a lot better in hindsight than they did in reality..lol

Personally, I am from a small town and the only way I know how to camp is from roughing it. Just a sleeping bag, maybe a tent and a cooler with some drinks and hot dogs, thats all you need. oh and a lighter to start your fire. and one last thing, a guitar, my brother would always play and I would always sing along, and it was a great time. I just wish the modern world wasn't so busy so that I would have alot more chances to go camping.
